Golden Serpent Dance
Build a dragon, compose its music and dance it to life as one team.

About
Throughout Asia, the dragon dance is performed at festivals and celebrations to bring good fortune, and it only works when an entire team moves in harmony. Golden Serpent Dance invites your group to create that spectacle for itself, making it a natural highlight for Lunar New Year and year-end events.
Each team begins by designing and constructing its own Chinese dragon, choosing its colours and character and building every part from head to tail.
Equipped with musical instruments, teams then compose a musical score and rehearse their own routine, learning to move the long, flexible dragon smoothly and in time with the music.
In the final performance, each team brings its dragon to life in a dignified, coordinated dance. Points are awarded for creativity, performance and teamwork, and the finale becomes a colourful celebration for all.
Learning outcomes
Building a dragon calls for creativity, ingenuity and good project management. Teams assess the task, form specialist groups that work in parallel and then bring all the parts together.
A successful build depends on cooperation between those groups and on active communication, so that every part fits as intended. Agreeing sizes and connections early prevents problems once the dragon begins to move.
Composing music and choreographing the dance draw on creative thinking and collaboration, as every idea must work for the whole team. Everyone has a voice, from drummers to dancers.
Bringing it all together in rehearsal and performance takes strong leadership and teamwork. A dragon only moves gracefully when everyone is in step, a powerful image of alignment within a team. It is also a wonderful celebration of shared culture.
