Little Makers Charity Build

About

Some team activities are forgotten by the next morning. Little Makers Charity Build is designed to be remembered, because everything your colleagues make goes straight to children in the local community.

Teams are set up as small toy factories. Each receives a box of mixed wooden components and a set of 3D plans showing several toy designs. The first job is organisation: identifying the parts, agreeing the workflow and giving every person a defined role on the production line.

Nothing leaves the line without passing a quality inspection, after which the toys are painted and decorated with plenty of colour and character. Teams then design simple, educational games to go with their toys and present them in a relaxed closing showcase.

Once the programme ends, every toy and game is donated to a children’s charity, school or home nearby, giving the session a purpose that lasts well beyond the day.

Learning outcomes

The programme makes good process visible. Within minutes, teams see that clear planning and well-defined roles produce better toys, and produce them faster, than everyone working on everything at once.

Quality inspection turns standards into a shared responsibility. When a toy is rejected, the team must talk it through, solve the problem and keep production moving, a scenario familiar to any operations or project team.

Designing the games shifts attention to the end user, the child who will actually play with the toy, which is a gentle but effective way of reinforcing customer focus.

Above all, knowing that the work will be donated gives the session real meaning. Colleagues leave with a sense of pride, a shared story to tell and a clearer view of how teamwork and corporate social responsibility can go hand in hand.

Teams paint and decorate every toy so it is ready for a child to enjoy.
