About

Model Metropolis invites your teams to act as city planners. Each team takes charge of one district of a large model city, with zones such as industrial, residential, leisure and the central business district.

Roads, railways and waterways must flow seamlessly from one district to the next, so no team can work in isolation. Teams agree design standards at the start and keep checking with their neighbours to ensure everything aligns.

Using a wide range of materials, teams build a city that is imaginative, practical and attractive, with every street and station planned to fit. It is a satisfying blend of creativity, logic and teamwork.

When time is called, the districts are joined into one metropolis, and the group celebrates what it has built together.

Learning outcomes

Teams develop a shared vision and strategy, then bring them to life through creativity and strong project management.

Planning across teams is essential. A road that ends at the edge of one district must meet a road in the next, so communication and collaboration become very real. Neighbours who talk early end up with the smoothest connections.

Creativity works best within a clear framework, keeping the city functional, practical and beautiful. Careful management of time and resources ensures the project is completed on schedule. It suits planning, facilities and project teams particularly well.

Model Metropolis relies on engagement from everyone, good team dynamics and cooperation across the group. It is a vivid reminder that the best results come when every department builds with the wider plan in mind.
